UK or USA?

I have been thinking recently that the UK is a better place for indi filmakers to make a good go of it. I have read alot about programs and other organizations that are putting out money for people to make films. But i have been unsuccessful in finding anything like that in the USA. No this is a question directed to anyone in the UK or someone who has had film experiance in either place...but do you think the UK or the USA is a better place for a hopeful film maker to be?

I think in America you certainly have a LOT more interesting and diverse location, where as in UK we have, urban, rural, hills, Wales.

And thats about it.

I would have *thought* distribution would be easier in the USA than the UK. I could be wrong.

But then I love doing it in the UK.

Being from the United States I know first hand that there are all kinds of programs that fund filmmakers. For many of them you need to be able to exhibit that you can indeed deliver on the project they fund. Have some work or body of work that you can show them. You'll need to know how to write a budget and schedule or know someone who will do it for you. Its all right there in your own back yard.

There is the IFP (Independent Feature Project), The McArthur foundation. Check with your local film office and watch the list of credits after you watch a program on PBS.You might also want to do a web search for FILM FUNDING or FILM GRANTS. And its
D-step-son.

Thanks dstepson, okay one more questions thought...how do i find my local film office...all i know of around here is tv stations..i don't know if that is what you mean or not?
